Feature description

In the settings menu:

  1. Add the option to set Sepia Search as the default search option
  2. Bundle Peerube-only options into a separate block

Why do you want this feature?

Unfortunately, the current implementation of Sepia Search is quite click-intensive for users and not particularly intuitive.

In its current state, each individual Sepia search query requires the following steps to be repeated each time:

  • First type in your search term
  • then tap on three dots in the top right corner
  • then check in Sepia Search
  • then press enter

From my experience, Sepia Search is a much more common use case than searching on the selected instance.

Wouldn't it make sense to have an option in the settings to set Sepia Search as the default search method?
Nevertheless, an option to temporarily switch the search method could remain in the drop-down menu in the top right corner. Default setting after installation should be -beacuse of the more common usecase- Sepia Seach switched on.

I could imagine that Peertube could even have its own block in the settings to separate it from purely YouTube options to make them easier to find. This could include:

  • Peertube instances
  • Handling of search suggestions
  • Sepia Search default yes/no

To my knowledge, all three of these only affect Peertube. The search suggestions option would then no longer confuse pure YouTube consumers.
