Checklist
Affected version
0.27.7
Steps to reproduce the bug
-
Open a YouTube Shorts (portrait) video.
-
Tap the popup (floating window) button.
-
Observe that the video is forced into landscape mode even though it's a portrait short.
Expected behavior
The portrait video should stay in portrait orientation within the popup to use minimal screen space.
Actual behavior
The popup window forces the video into landscape mode, which stretches it unnecessarily and takes more screen space than required.
Screenshots/Screen recordings

Image 1 – Portrait mode working correctly (Expected Behavior):
This shows a YouTube Shorts video playing in full-screen mode (within the app) and maintaining the correct portrait orientation, as it should.
Image 2 – Popup mode forces landscape (Actual Bug):
This shows the same Shorts video opened in popup mode, but the video is forced into a landscape container, stretching the video sideways with black bars.
This is incorrect, because the video is naturally in portrait format and should not be forced into a landscape layout. It wastes screen space and looks bad.
Logs
No response
Affected Android/Custom ROM version
Android 11
Affected device model
Redmi Note 8 pro
Additional information
-
Works fine in the main app in portrait.
-
Only happens in popup mode.
-
It would be better if the popup player respects the original video orientation.
