Bruh. Even if this is possible, only the AV streams like 360p or 720p would be supported, as all other streams are basically video only and audio only. (unless you're using vlc, or mpv-android)

i support this as well, it would make it a bit easier to remoted upload video for archiving purpose

This would really help me out too.

Since de-googling my phone I've lost access to a proprietary paid casting app which allowed me to share videos from NewPipe to my Chromecast.

I'm now using VLC to cast the videos but it can't handle website urls. It will however play the video stream directly (for example. "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-J3YJxNnzDc" becomes "https://rr2---sn-aigl6ns6.googlevideo.com/videoplayback?expire=1693328292....").

I can toggle "Use external video player" to achieve this under Settings > Video and Audio, but it would be really nice to have this as a shortcut next to "share" when you open a video within the app. I use NewPipe for both playback on my phone and for sharing to Chromecast and it's a pain to have to dig into the settings to change this each time.

If anyone knows of a simpler open source way to cast YouTube streams to a Chromecast device - please let me know!

Yeah I just read the description and it doesn't make sense. We already provide a stream URL for external players.

The only thing that can be done further is to try to get the muted streams to have audio.
