colorscheme not showing

Bug description 🐛

I already added body parts when create the project but when Iabel frames in napari GUI, it didn't show anything in color scheme reference. When I added point, it only added hand_R (body parts I added are hand_R, hand_L, etc.) and don't know where to change to other body parts.

Hello @anejung, just to clarify, I have a few questions if you do not mind:

• After adding a point, the color list did populate with a single entry, and now you would like to add more points ?
• Have you tried changing the labeling mode (quick, sequential, loop ?)
• Are you using version 0.2.17 or 0.2.18 of napari-deeplabcut ?

• After added a point there's a only one color points in label area appeared but there's nothing in color scheme. yes I would like to add more point with different color/body parts. The picture below is what happened the other day.

and this is what happened today. the color scheme show after I clicked 'new shape' but there's still no keypoint selection.

• I couldn't change the labeling mode as you could see the labeling mode box looks faded.
• it's napari-deeplabcut: 0.2.1.8

Thanks for further reporting @anejung, indeed the behavior you describe makes sense for the current version of the plugin.

0.2.1.8 still has the following limitations:

Regarding Points layers adoption

• Loading layers first (drag & drop) and then opening the widget does not auto-register the layers and enable controls.
  • Fix : open the widget first, and only then drag & drop the layers
  • This should enable the controls and show "Keypoint selection".
  • This annoyance is fixed in Plugin refactor [1] : stricter data models, more explicit core logic  #163, which now "adopts" existing loaded layers on open.

If you are using the DeepLabCut GUI and do not manage to open the plugin and then add data in that setting, please let me know.
Otherwise in standalone mode the above workaround should suffice.

Regarding Color Scheme Reference

• This is statically loaded based on label/color metadata, derived from config.yaml if available
  • As such, starting with an empty layer and adding points will not add new entries in the display
  • Your second screenshot does show it is populated however, which means it was able to read config.yaml
  • Dynamic color scheme updates are being added in Plugin refactor [3-I] ColorSchemeDisplay rework #171, which introduces an interactive display that updates based on current layer contents and can be clicked to select corresponding points.

I realize this may not immediately solve all of your current issues, and for now I can mainly suggest workarounds while the refactor is still in progress. Still, I’m very happy to help however I can, feel free to share more details if useful.
